The same character, in every shot

A story needs people the audience recognizes. draft2cut gives each character a reference, a turnaround, outfits, expressions and a voice — and uses them in every shot.

Eight views of one character

A turnaround shows the character from the front, the sides and the back, so every later shot has something to match.

A farmer in eight views, from the front, three-quarter, side and back, in her green work overalls and brown boots.

From pencil draft to final art

Work fast on drafts, and make the final version when the look is right.

The farmer as a pencil draft, holding a jar of soil and a tablet.
The same farmer as final art, in colour, holding the jar and the tablet.

Outfits and expressions

The same character in different clothes, and with thirty-six different expressions that can be chosen shot by shot.

The page of one character in a draft2cut project: whether it depicts a real person, its description, the overview image with its outfits, a grid of thirty-six expressions, the turnarounds, the voice and the list of scenes it appears in.

The same characters in every shot

Mira laughing as she strides through a workshop in orange overalls.
Mira crouching, worried, to inspect a machine in a work jacket.
Mira calm and focused at a console in a grey technician uniform.
Mira surprised in pyjamas in a bunk cabin.
Mira running along a corridor in a light flight jacket.
Mira thoughtful, leaning on a railing in front of a window onto space.

How continuity is kept

  • Choose which characters appear in each shot, in which outfit and with which expression.
  • Choose which reference images go to the engine, and which stay out.
  • Keep a voice for each character, used for every line.
  • Reuse characters, outfits and locations across episodes from the project library.

Keep your characters across the whole story
