Script to storyboard to XMEML and the editing suite

Not every project ends inside one tool. draft2cut can hand its timeline to the software an editor already uses.

What XMEML is

XMEML is an interchange format for editing timelines. Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere can import it, so a timeline built in one place can be opened, and finished, in another.

What the timeline carries

  • The shots in order, with the cuts already in place.
  • The dialogue of each shot.
  • The music, on its own track, repeated as needed to cover its scenes.
  • The files themselves, so the editor does not have to relink anything.

When to use it

Use it when the picture is done and the finishing — grading, sound mix, titles — belongs in an editing suite. Keep working in draft2cut when you are still deciding what the shots are: the export can be repeated at any time.
