AI copyright for writers and video creators

Raw AI text is unprotected, but a person who translates, restructures or rewrites it adds a new, protected layer. For scripts, the 2023 Writers Guild of America contract says AI is not a writer: AI material cannot be used to reduce a screenwriter's credit or pay.

Images are the hardest to protect, because the model decides almost all of the visual expression. Video is usually a composed work: the individual clips may be unprotected, while the human choices of cutting, pacing, sound and structure make the whole a protected work.
